A Billion-Dollar Boost for Sarasota Schools

Big changes are coming to Sarasota schools, with over a billion dollars in construction projects underway.

A brand-new K–8 school at Skye Ranch opens this summer, while a massive high school in Wellen Park is on track for 2026. Booker High is getting a new field house, and North Port High will see a $95 million makeover. HVAC upgrades, new roofs, and refreshed interiors are hitting Sarasota High, Sarasota Middle, and Bay Haven. McIntosh Middle’s farm program is expanding with a teaching kitchen, and Garden Elementary in Venice is being rebuilt from storm damage. A new Lakewood Ranch elementary is also in the pipeline. Sarasota is not just growing, it’s leveling up.

Meadows Country Club Files for Bankruptcy, Plans Community Buyout

The Meadows Country Club has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, listing over $2.6 million in liabilities, including nearly $500,000 owed to the IRS and $103,470 to the Florida Department of Revenue. The club plans to sell to The Meadows Community Association Club Holdings Inc., a nonprofit formed by the neighborhood association, for $1.4 million.

Court documents show nearly 200 creditors, with assets totaling about $1.6 million, including $400 in cash and $250,000 in receivables. The board hopes the sale to the nonprofit will keep the club running and owned by the community.
