Lakewood Ranch Gets Green Light for New High School

High School AAA is officially moving forward in Lakewood Ranch at the corner of Rangeland Parkway and Post Boulevard. The School District of Manatee County had toyed with the idea of a collegiate-style school where students could earn an associate degree but heard loud and clear from parents that they wanted a full-service high school with sports and arts.

Interim superintendent Kevin Chapman said the new school will be built in two phases and will mirror Parrish Community High School. The plan calls for two academic buildings, full athletic and arts facilities, and room for 2,000 students when it opens in August 2027. The campus will span approximately 265,000 square feet. The total cost is estimated at around $200 million. A possible third academic building could be added later, costing between $15 million and $20 million and accommodating an additional 500 students.

FST Marquee Gets Green Light from City Commission

Florida Studio Theatre just scored a big win with the city. After years of back and forth, the City Commission voted unanimously to let the theater keep its large lighted marquee on the corner of Cocoanut and First. The sign, which went up without full approval in 2022, had sparked plenty of debate over downtown’s look. Now it’s officially here to stay, giving the theater the green light to keep its bold presence on the block.
