Downtown Condo Boom
Downtown’s crane count keeps climbing. Nine condo projects from U.S. 41 to 301 could add 717 homes and 153 hotel rooms, with construction costs around 500 dollars a square foot.
Think twin 18-story Mira Mar towers, Adagio’s luxury-plus-workforce combo, and a block-long 1718 Main Street build. Rounding out the list are the Florida Studio Theatre expansion, SOTA Residences and Hotel, the High Line, Palm 625, the Edge, and a reworked 1260 North Palm.
More than twenty additional towers are already queued up nearby, so our once low-rise arts town is about to look a lot glossier.
St. Regis on LBK Scoops Up Five Diamonds
Less than a year after opening in August 2024, the St. Regis Longboat Key Resort has earned AAA Travel’s coveted five diamond rating, joining just ten hotels in Florida and two on the Gulf coast.
Fewer than one percent of the 23,000 properties AAA inspects reach this mark, a fact the resort’s general manager, Winfred van Workum, calls a testament to his team’s service.
The 168-room getaway, paired with 69 on-site condos, now awaits a separate verdict from Forbes Travel Guide, which lists its review as “pending.” While accolades roll in, the resort is still working with town officials on solutions to lingering parking challenges.
Is SpaceX Landing in Myakka City?
SpaceX has filed early plans for a fenced, gravel compound on 0.73 acres at 3350 C.R. 675 in Myakka City, packing in 40 satellite antennas aimed at beefing up Starlink’s fast, low-latency internet.
County records say the ground station would handle both uplink and downlink traffic, but officials note that permit applications are still under review. The move lines up with SpaceX’s broader Florida push—an expected $1.8 billion investment on the Space Coast and 600 new jobs by 2030, plus a planned launch from Kennedy Space Center later this year.
