Mote’s New $130 Million Aquarium Set to Open at UTC

Mote Marine Laboratory is about to open its brand-new Science Education Aquarium on Oct. 8 at University Town Center. The $130 million, 146,000-square-foot facility is twice the size of the old City Island aquarium and features a 400,000-gallon Gulf of Mexico habitat, a dedicated manatee space, penguins, otters, sea turtles, and more than a dozen sharks.

Along with exhibits, the aquarium includes event spaces, a coastal-inspired dining area, free classrooms for local schools, and labs for conservation and research. This milestone also marks Mote’s 70th anniversary and a big step forward for Sarasota’s role in marine science.

Sprouts Farmers Market Heads to Venice

Sprouts Farmers Market is opening its first Venice location on October 10 at Jacaranda Boulevard and U.S. 41. The store will bring its well-known mix of fresh produce, natural foods, and health products, along with a deli, bakery, and vitamins section. Shoppers can expect plenty of organic options and bulk bins filled with snacks, grains, and nuts. Sprouts is also planning special deals and free samples during its opening weekend.
