📰 Local Headline Roundup

Hurricane Season Closes with a Quiet Finish in Sarasota

Hurricane season wrapped up quietly for Sarasota this year. No storms made landfall in the county, and local officials say the community came through in good shape.

This year’s hurricane season felt almost calm compared to the usual stress. Sarasota County never saw a direct hit, and emergency management crews stayed focused on readiness rather than cleanup. One storm did prompt shelter openings and brief evacuations, but the county avoided major damage. Officials still reminded residents that planning ahead paid off and will continue to matter as storm patterns shift.

Big Top Brewing Cranks Up Production at Fruitville Commons

Big Top is finishing up a brand-new brew house at its Fruitville Commons location that will more than triple its beer production.

The upgrade means new shiny tanks, a four-vessel brewing system capable of filling up to about 3.5 million cans a year (if they canned all their beer). With the tanks installed and the brewing system about to go live, guests will be able to peek behind the curtain — soon a big glass window will reveal that wall of stainless steel — and even take tours while beer’s on the line.

Behind-the-scenes brewers like Damien Hickel and Sarah Johnson are ready to roll. There’s talk of weekly beer releases, and bartenders themselves might brew the beers they serve.

 🔦 Featured Event: The Nutcracker

The Sarasota Ballet is giving a hometown twist to a holiday classic with The Nutcracker in Venice. This reimagined production keeps all the magic of Tchaikovsky’s score but moves the story to our own Gulf Coast, complete with Venice flair and vibrant coastal staging.

It is a bright, playful take on a tradition that still feels timeless. If you are looking for a festive night out that blends local charm with big stage energy, this one is an easy pick for the season.
