A Beloved St. Armands Spot Is Back With a New Name
Nōnnō Umberto, the Italian restaurant on St. Armands Circle formerly known as Le Colonne, quietly reopened early January under new leadership and a new name. The soft opening drew far more diners than expected as the community turned out to support the family’s comeback after closing because of last year’s hurricanes.
To keep the business going while rebuilding, the owners ran a food truck and now have their indoor space back with updated offerings while honoring the legacy of the original restaurant founder.
Michael Jordan’s Club Moves One Step Closer to Downtown Sarasota
1000 NORTH, the ultra-exclusive club co-founded by Michael Jordan and a crew of top athletes, just hit a key milestone in its plan to open a Sarasota outpost. City planners gave partial approval for the project at the BLVD Sarasota site at Boulevard of the Arts and North Tamiami Trail.
The two-floor space will include a fine dining room, private dining and wine lounges, and aims to serve up to 200 members with luxury perks like limousine and private jet access, yachts and more. The club’s first branch is in Jupiter but the Sarasota version will be members only and invite-based.
New Face of SRQ and His Vision for the Airport’s Next Chapter
Paul Hoback Jr. has taken the helm as the new president and CEO of Sarasota Bradenton International Airport bringing 25 years of aviation experience from Pittsburgh International Airport. He talks about falling in love with flight, why SRQ’s growth and small-town feel drew him here, and his priority projects like improving parking, rental car capacity and baggage claim so that the airport keeps up with booming demand.
Hoback also wants SRQ to feel like a gateway to paradise with more art, food and resort-style touches for travelers. He sees airports as both economic engines and places that shape people’s travel memories.
🔦 Featured Event: New Year On The Block
Fresh Fridays is a free, monthly block party in downtown Sarasota that takes over Main Street or other downtown corridors on the first Friday of each month from 7 to 10 pm. This month, it kicks off the new year.
It celebrates the city’s creative energy with rotating themes, live music, local food and drinks, unique vendors, and community atmosphere that draws residents and visitors to experience Sarasota’s vibrant core.
These nights under the stars highlight local culture, connect businesses and neighbors, and offer a lively way to kick off the weekend.
