📰 Local News
✈️ Inside SRQ’s Next‑Level Growth
Sarasota Bradenton International Airport served 4,245,686 passengers in 2024, a slight dip from 2023 but still a jump of nearly 234 percent since 2018, when just 1.3 million travelers passed through.
🏗️ Terminal expansion
In March 2023 SRQ launched a 115 million dollar terminal project.
The centerpiece, 75,300‑square‑foot Concourse A, opened in January with a four‑lane security checkpoint and five Allegiant Air gates.
Local dining brands now on site include Anna Maria Oyster Bar and Patricks 1481.
🛫 Airlines and routes
Carrier count has grown from six in 2018 to eleven today.
Nonstop destinations climbed from twelve in 2017 to sixty‑eight.
Allegiant will fly to thirty‑five cities this year, making it the largest carrier during peak winter months.
🚧 Infrastructure upgrades
Recent and ongoing projects:
Jet‑fuel storage tripled in size
Security screening area enlarged by 33 percent
Additional parking lots added
Ground transportation center and new baggage systems under construction
💵 Financial picture
Net revenue for fiscal 2023: 10.9 million dollars
Projected net revenue for fiscal 2024: 11.7 million dollars (audit pending)
Projected net revenue for fiscal 2025: 12.3 million dollars
🏆 Recognition: Florida Department of Transportation named SRQ 2022 Commercial Service Airport of the Year for achievements in aesthetics, safety and management.
Looking ahead: Current plans position SRQ to handle up to eight million passengers annually by 2050
🔦 Spotlight: Savor Sarasota
I haven’t ever spotlighted something twice, but Savor Sarasota is worth it.
From June 1 through 20, participating spots across Sarasota, Longboat Key, Lido Key, Venice, and Englewood will offer prix-fixe menus at $25 for lunch and $45 for dinner.
This is a long running special event. It’s the best way to get to know the Sarasota restaurant scene.
Be sure to check out some of the participating restaurants. And if you go, don’t forget to tell them the Sarasota Scoop sent you!
